Japanese Arcades Suffering Thanks to Consoles
by Wesley Johnson ~ May 19th, 2008. Filed under: .Japan’s once thriving arcade industry seems to be suffering at the hands of home consoles, most notably the Nintendo Wii. Reuters posted an article on how chains and arcades have been closing down due to lack of interest. “Arcades are expensive, noisy and filled with cigarette smoke,” one Japanese gamer says in the article, “besides, I can stay home and play NBA Live on PlayStation 3.”
We in America have had a sever decline in arcade interest as well. Sadly, the wonderful King of Kong didn’t revive the once great industry. Perhaps it shall one day return to its former glory!
