RIAA Pressures Dell to Cripple Audio Recording Capabilities?
by Wesley Johnson ~ July 8th, 2008. Filed under: .
The tech gossip mavens at Techdirt.com are reporting that several Dell owners have discovered their default laptop sound configuration blocks the recording of audio. This, of course, led to speculation that the computer company caved to pressure from the RIAA to cripple their hardware’s ability to perform certain sound related tasks. However, the ability to record is easily reinstated with a few minor tweaks.
It looks as though this was merely an oversight at Dell in lieu of actual RIAA-pressure. That doesn’t stop the crackpots and their conspiracy theories, though.
