TiVo to Implement Nielsen-esque Ratings Service

Nielsen, watch your back … TiVo’s on the prowl!
Variety reports that TiVo will soon launch a television ratings service for local markets called Stop Watch. The service, according to a rep for the company, will be able to enter any local television market immediately due to it making use of the standard TiVo set-top box already in hundreds of homes.
They say they have no plans on taking on Nielsen directly, but, they do believe their product offers a more practical way of gauging ratings. We’re quite sure they secretly plan to overthrow the Nielsen dynasty though. Stop Watch Local Markets will be put into use this summer.
