More Remake News: Melrose Place, Total Recall, Short Circuit, Predators, Warriors

080404shortcircuitMan, this is just getting out of hand.

To begin, Dan Milano, who writes and provides voices for Robot Chicken and was also creator for the short-lived Greg the Bunny, is said to be writing the script for a Short Circuit remake. The good news is that they’re potentially not going to change the look of Number 5. Producer David Foster, from the first one, is back this time as well. It sounds like these people actually care, so there’s hope.

Next we have Total Recall. It looks like Kurt Wimmer, who wrote The Thomas Crown Affair, The Recruit and some other movies, is set to pen the script. Word has it that they’re going to adapt the film based on Philip K. Dick’s story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” like the last one.

In more sort-of Arnold Schwarzenegger news, the governor of California has been offered a role in Robert Rodriguez’s Predators update. It’s said to be a sequel where there are multiple predators like in Aliens. Rodriguez is apparently vehemently opposed to a remake, so a sequel seems to the only thing in mind.

Now for the two biggest pieces of bad news:

There’s going to be a new Melrose Place series on the CW Wednesday nights. Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro will return from the first incarnation of the show. Who? Ashlee Simpson-Wentz also has a role.

And then there’s news that Tony Scott is remaking The Warriors. Ridley Scott’s less-talented, weird-editing little brother is going to switch the storyline from New York to L.A. Gag-fest-suck-town. They have to cast Denzel Washington somewhere in there, too, since he’s in EVERY Tony Scott movie. Why? Why?

Durm roll please! dadaddaddadadaddd da! “Not original”. Let the screen writers go on strike again, then maybe we can move on.

I feel for the writers of Insulin Funk. Let’s all move to Bollywood.
