Movies, Your Girlfriend, and You.

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Do you have a girlfriend? Yes? Do you and your girlfriend see movies together? So far so good.

Let me ask you this. Do you ever find a movie that one of you wants to see…and the other one does not?

I know. I’m psychic. It’s a gift.

But, you ask, what can possibly be done about this horrifying situation? Should one of us see the movie alone? Boring. Should one of us suck it up and go to a movie we despise? Leads to resentment. Should we get into a big argument and shout until the neighbors call the cops? Prison cells are cold! What you need is a plan.

No problem. The plan is called movie credits.

It’s very simple. Anytime your girlfriend wants to take you to a movie you find cringe-worthy, just smile and say yes – on one condition. You’ll… … Movies, Your Girlfriend, and You.

Warhammer Direct-to-DVD Film in the Works

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Codex Pictures, a production house based in the UK, is currently hard at work on a Warhammer 40,000-based direct-to-dvd CGI film, Ultamarines.

The website launched to promote the film mentions that the film will be 70 minutes and use “CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques”. The cost of the animation apparently prevented them from putting together a state-of-the-art website; the flash intro harkens back to the mid-90s at best.

Sunny Day Real Estate Perform on Jimmy Fallon

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen, we were going to begin with some stupid joke about how Sunny Day Real Estate was performing “on” Jimmy Fallon, like there was a giant Jimmy Fallon and Sunny Day was playing songs “on” him. But that’s not funny, and the band Lit already did it. So without further ado, Sunny Day Real Estate on Jimmy Fallon. You should start watching the show; it’s better than you think.

AMC’s The Prisoner to Escape in November

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

AMC’s six-part re-imagining of The Prisoner will begin airing on Sunday, November 15. Unlike most remakes, this one has won the support of fans of the original series due to it having two respectable actors in the lead roles; Jim Caviezel portrays Number Six, Ian McKellen portrays Number Two.

Should the series prove successful, we might see more installments in the future. Anyone plan on watching?

Interested in beta testing the Star Wars: The Old Republic? If so, mosey on over to Bioware’s site to sign-up. Well, actually, you might want to hold off a bit before moseying as the site is currently down due to the “overwhelming response” to the beta announcement.

Insulinfunk Interview with Sam Witwer of The Crashtones

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

You know him best as Davis Bloome/Doomsday on Smallville or Crashdown from Battlestar Galactica. But when he’s not acting in your favorite TV show, he’s fronting a band entitled The Crashtones with a group of musicians that include Glenn Howerton of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He’s Sam Witwer– and I’m trying to come up with a sentence for how awesome he is for doing this interview, but nothing worthy enough comes to mind. So just read it already.

To begin, I can only describe your band as something along the lines of Incubus, System of a Down or the Red Hot Chili Peppers but tongue-in-cheek every once in a while as well. I’m horrible at this. How would you describe your band?
I think you did a pretty good job. I would like to address the tongue in cheek observation. Very sharp. I… … Insulinfunk Interview with Sam Witwer of The Crashtones

The Big Pink Featured on ABC News

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

This week’s installment of New Music Monday by our friends at ABC News features the UK’s own The Big Pink. Their debut album A Brief History of Love came out a few weeks ago on 4AD.

The Big Pink can be described as your seminal Brit rock band with a touch of shoegaze, a little grunge and maybe some paprika. Wow, that last one wasn’t funny at all. It’s almost sad really. Just click on the headline and click on the player and do the describing for your own self.
