Insulinfunk Mixtape Two: These Beats
by Jarret Green ~ November 9th, 2009. Filed under: IF Mixtape, Music.
It’s back kids! The Insulinfunk Mixtape has returned to make your commute, workout, or Audiosurf session even hotter. Without delay, let’s get into these beats!
Max Tundra – “Which Song” (Passion Pit Remix)
This remix perfectly blends Passion Pit’s fuzzy synth spits with Max Tundra’s soft vocal delivery. Catchy and clever! Max Tundra is currently on tour with Deastro, and their album Parallax Error Beheads You (We know; awesome name, right?) hits everywhere November 18.
Tahiti 80’s known for slightly-retro sunshine pop. You don’t get much more upbeat than these guys, and “Unpredictable” is a pretty good example of their sound. The band’s fourth album, Activity Center, drops November 24.
8bitcollective artist TREYFREY posted “THUNDERBIRD” as a demo this week, but it sounds like pure chiptune genius to us. Check it out, and then let him know what you think.
We’re not sure we’ve ever encountered an artist name and song title that more accurately describes a track. DJ and producer Slacker channels Brian Eno, Sigur Ros, and M83. You can find the track on the album of same name.
Quest for Fire – “Hawk That Hunts the Walking”
QFF brings the only rock track to this mix. Their spaced-out brand of stoner rock invokes Tool, Dead Meadow, and Black Mountain. The band, featuring former members of The Deadly Snakes, take their Toronto-based act on tour with Priestess and Early Man this fall. Their self-titled debut is available now.
Amanda Blank – “Might Like You Better” & “Shame On Me” (Viking Remix)
The next two tracks come from RCRD LBL’s much-buzzed Amanda Blank. This female version of Spank Rock (thus NSFW) spits old-school rhymes and poppy hooks with ‘tude. So maybe she’s more like Sonic. Anyway, check out these tracks and more over at the link.
T.E.L.L. – “With My Hands Out” (Mount Eerie Cover)
We close out the mix with The Eva Longoria Loved Band’s cover of Mount Eerie’s “With My Hands Out.” This slow, moody track translates perfectly into chiptune format. If you’ll remember, our very own Blake Garris interviewed Mount Eerie not too long ago, so this song combines two things we love: 8-bit music and great indie artists!
