David Tennant Talks Doctor Who with MTV

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Normally we don’t like directly linking to other folk’s Q&As, but we couldn’t resist this one. David Tennant sat down with MTV’s Rick Marshall to discuss his time starting in Doctor Who, the mementos he has taken with him, and the possibility of him cameoing in future episodes of the series.

“I’d probably have to move away and let the dust settle and let the new team get established and all that,” he says of the potential cameo. But there is a bit of a tradition of The Doctor meeting his former selves.”

Tennant’s cameo would be quite easy to work out, actually. Fans will recall a human copy of him was left with Rose Tyler in another dimension. The new Doc can just swing by for an occasional visit.

Three Classic Cases of Domain Disputes

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Yesterday’s mention of Google’s loss to 207 Media over the name “Groovle.com” inspired us to reminisce about domain disputes of days gone by. Below you’ll find summaries of three of our favorite cases.

“It’s Miller Time!”

In 1995, a resident of San Mateo, CA named Mark Miller launched a website with pictures and information on his family at MILLERTIME.COM. Using that particular phrase brought the site to the attention of the Miller Brewing Company, which, as lushes and non-lushes know, has used “It’s Miller Time!” as their slogan for years. The company attempted to persuade the family to give up the domain name without involving the courts; however, they refused to give it up. They felt their “noncommercial” use of the phrase protected them. Unfortunately, they were wrong.

Mr. Miller actually filed a complaint against Miller Brewing Company, which was quickly shot… … Three Classic Cases of Domain Disputes

Weekly DL: Chronices of Inotia II: The Wanderer of Luone

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The Weekly DL returns! This week, we’d like to suggest a purchase of Com2us’ brilliant iPhone/iPod Touch RPG Chronicles of Inotia II: The Wanderer of Luone. The game’s an incredibly rich, old fashioned experience that should appeal to fans of Dragon Warrior, Diablo, or the recent Torchlight.

The story is fairly straight forward. You’re a hero in a land overtaken by the Evil Lord Gargon. The character you create (available classes: Knight, Templar, Magician, Priest, and Thief) traverses the land, fights monsters, and enlists the help of people he meets along the way. As with the previous Inotia, a touch control scheme is utilized that’s much more effective than giving you a virtual joystick. You simply touch where you wish to go and the enemies you wish to attack. If you cannot acclimate yourself to that, a virtual joystick is… … Weekly DL: Chronices of Inotia II: The Wanderer of Luone

The Most Ordered Comics of the Decade

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

There has been quite a few comics featuring our Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama. At first, this created an influx of people rushing to stores to snatch up books, even if they weren’t a comic fan. For proof of how big the influx was, we’d like to direct your attention to Comic Chronicles’ list of the 300 most ordered comics of the decade.

Amazing Spider-Man #583, a book featuring Obama on the cover, was named the “most ordered” book with “at least” 524,914 copies sold. Sadly, the much more classy Barack The Barbarian didn’t receive nearly as much attention. Marvel’s Civil War #2, #3, and #1 took the next three spots. Captain America #25, the issue in which Cap died, finished out the top 5.

Armored Accidentally Put on PSN for Free

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Nimród Antal’s Armored is still in theaters, however, it was available for FREE yesterday via Playstation Network for a brief time. This was an apparent glitch as the film was removed shortly after being found by the internet. So, pirates … you had a deal dangling before you that you’d not get in trouble for partaking of.

/Film made mention that Sony has hinted at possible releasing films digital prior to their DVD release. Perhaps Armored’s lackluster theatrical performance means we can expect it to be released digitally and physically soon.

Yet Another Piece of the Spider-Man Puzzle

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

We’ve received a third piece to the “The Year of Spider-Man is 2010” puzzle from Marvel Comics. Upon seeing this in our inbox, we forwarded it to Insulinfunk Labs to have it merged with the other two, but Larry, our technician, gave up due to some of the pieces not fitting together correctly.

So far, the puzzle pieces have revealed Madame Web, various iterations of Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Kraven, and The Lizard. Looks like Spidey’s in for a rude awakening next year. To see our first merged puzzle piece and the latest one we were sent, keep reading

Modern Warfare 2 Most Pirated Game of 2009

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Despite Infinity Ward’s efforts to keep the pirates at bay, Modern Warfare 2 has officially been ruled the “Most Pirated Game of 09” award by TorrentFreak. According to the site, the title was downloaded 4,100,000 on the PC and 970,000 times on the Xbox 360. Around the time of the game’s release, as you’ll recall, Microsoft suspended approximately 1 million XBLA accounts for playing pirated games. Kinda weird how that number compares to the number of times MW2 was downloaded, eh?
