Conchord’s Bobin to Possibly Helm Muppets Movie

Friday, January 29th, 2010

James Bobin, a behind-the-scenes man on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, has reportedly been offered the chance to direct the next Muppets film. The film was originally to be directed by Nick Stoller, who co-wrote the script with actor Jason Segel, however, his schedule prevented him from taking the job. Now, it looks like the studio’s number one guy is Bobin.

Given the madcap zaniness of an average FotC episode, Bobin seems like an excellent choice for this. If you can think of a better choice, let us know in the comments.

New Details Emerge on Prison Break: The Conspiracy

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Deep Silver’s freshly launched website for Prison Break: The Conspiracy offers new details on the game, which will be released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this spring.

Much like the disappointing Lost: Via Domus, Prison Break: The Conspiracy puts you in the shoes of a character that didn’t appear in the series. You play as Tom Paxton, an agent of The Company sent to Fox River to observe and report on hunky inmate Michael Scofield. As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter characters from the show voiced by the actors that made them famous. The storyline, which was co-authored by actual Prison Break writers, runs parallel to the events of the series, which they say will give new insight in the Prison Break ‘verse.

The R. Crumb Trading Card set will be available for $11.95 later this month.

Author J.D. Salinger Passes Away

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Author J.D. Salinger, 91, passed away due to natural causes at his home in New Hampshire. While the author isolated himself from the world for the most part, we did hear from him recently. He stepped into the spotlight long enough to prevent the release of 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye, an unauthorized sequel to his beloved Catcher in the Rye.

NPR has a lengthy write up on the author’s life and career, which we recommend taking a look at. It’s available via the source link.

Bendis Adapting Fire for Zac Efron

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

In hopes of dashing the pretty boy image he acquired post-High School Musical, Zac Efron has agreed to star in a film adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ Fire. Loosely based on real events that occurred during the Regan-era, Fire follows a college student recruited by the CIA as part of a program to make agents out of average, nondescript folks. Bendis penned the screenplay, so there’s no doubt it’ll be faithful to the source material.

Efron proved with Orson & Me that he might have life beyond the Disney Channel. So, we have no doubt he’ll do well in Fire. We’re just hoping for at least one or two scenes sans shirt.
