Teaser: Harry Potter Pitches Guardians of the Globe

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Image Comics continues to inject a bit of humor into their promotional campaign for Guardians of the Globe. Yesterday’s humorous image of Barack Obama ruffled a few feathers, but not as many as we expected. The image sent today features Harry Potter, everyone’s favorite boy wizard, uttering the phrase “Okay, now this is getting a little ridiculous…and slightly illegal.”

Image might want to re-think this PR strategy as Potter scribe J.K. Rowling is quite fond of suing anyone using her creation sans authorization. Here’s hoping she’s in a good mood this week.

Kirby Estate Sues Marvel Comics

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Jack Kirby co-created many legendary characters over the span of his career. The Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the X-Men are just a few of the many creations we’ve come to know in love that he had a hand in. A few months ago Kirby’s estate sent out 45 termination of copyright notices to entities profiting off of his work. They apparently didn’t do the trick, though, as the estate has filed suit against Marvel.

Marvel has defended themselves by saying that Kriby’s work was done as “work for hire,” which means the estate is entitled to nothing. They actually filed a suit against the estate after they received one of the aforementioned termination of copyright notices.

This one could get interesting, folks. We’ll keep you abreast of any new developments.

BOOM! to Release Vehlmann & Phillips’ 7 Psychopaths

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Geeks all love revisionist history, right? What if Kennedy was never assassinated? What if Abraham Lincoln was a vampire hunter? What if 7 psychopaths were hired to kill Hitler in WWII? To those whose interested was piqued by that last question, BOOM! Studios would like to recommend their new miniseries, 7 Psychopaths.

“With World War II in full swing, there’s only one way to draw the war to a quick end: kill Hitler. But who would be insane enough to try? One person knows just the men to do it. Insane? Psychotic? Mad? Call them what you will, but the 7 PSYCHOPATHS are now the only hope the world has! ”

The first issue will be on shelves this may for a mere $3.99. It was written by Fabien Vehlmann and drawn by Sean Phillips.

Hugo Weaving in Negotations to Play the Red Skull

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Hugo Weaving is currently in negotiations to star as Captain America’s arch-nemesis The Red Skull in The First Avenger: Captain America. We still have no idea who’ll actually portray cap, but Weaving is apparently quite close to signing on.

The Red Skull, for the uninformed, was Hitler’s go-to guy in WWII. He fell into suspended animation back in the day and was reawakened in the modern area. The Ultimate Comics version of the villain is actually the illegitimate son of the good Captain and his girl Gail. Most Marvel-produced films seem to have more in common with the Ultimate ‘verse than the regular one, however, they’ll likely use the tradtional Red Skull here.
