- The 2008 Christmas Special, which is reportedly has already been filmed. There will be 3-4 specials shown in the year 2009, two of which will be written by Russel T. Davies. Steven Moffat will take over for Davies as showrunner for series 5 which will begin filming in the spring. - David Tennant will possibly be leaving after “four specials and one movie”. Could this mean a theatrical Doctor Who film is on the horizon? As much as I’d hate to see Tennant depart, I would love to see Doctor Who on the big screen. - A “fairly reliable” source says that casting director Andy Pryor has cast DT’s replacement. One name I’ve seen kicked around is Robert Carlyle, whom I think would fit the role beautifully. The site mentions there was at least one female on the shortlist of potential Doctors.
