A few days ago I preordred this Wii Bundle from Gamestop.com for the library I work at. According to the site, it wasn’t to ship until July 31 so I figured I’d have a good chance at getting one. I, along with pretty much everyone else, feel that there should be some sort of public event to showcase forthcoming video game release. I went to my first comic convention this year and would love to attend a similar event for games. Should one be held, though, I’d hope for cheaper soft drinks that weren’t watered down. Konami had a game in arcades a few years ago that made use of a guitar controller which they patented. They are currently producing a Rock Band competitor, Rock Revolution, with a TBA release date. Posted in: Video Games | Comments (0) |

Konami released an arcade game in Japan called GuitarFreaks which is apparently similar to Guitar Hero/Rock Band several years ago. They patented their controllers, of course, which led to their decision to sue. One wonders why they’ve waited so long to take action against the company if they felt so strongly violated. MTV has little concern over the lawsuit Konami filed against them, Harmonix, and Viacom over the Rock Band guitar peripheral. An MTV rep was quoted by the network’s news program as saying, “Konami’s actions are extremely surprising … Unfortunately, successful products such as Rock Band can often become targets for baseless litigation. We have substantial defenses to this claim and intend to vigorously defend it.” 
Konami has filed suit against Harmonix, MTV Networks, and Viacom for allegedly violating patents with Rock Band’s guitar peripheral. According to Joystiq, Konami is seeking both monetary compensation and a block on future use of the aforementioned peripherals. No statement has been released from the other side.
